Flood control barrage on the River Orb at Béziers

This barrage can be raised to prevent water backing up from the Mediterranean and flooding the lower town, it also serves to permit the
lowering of the water level in the town to allow for work on the bridge foundations etc.
The entry/exit to the canal system is on the far bank just upstream
of the barrage and the bridge in the distance is the “ Pont Canal ” built to permit the Midi Canal traffic to safely cross the river Orb.
